From the September 21, 1928 News – Examiner (Connersville Indiana)
POSTER PRAISED The following paragraph concerning the work of E. Pierre Wainwright, local artist, is an excerpt from a bulletin issued by Purdue University.
The 1928 football poster of the university has been acclaimed as a distinctive piece of artiest and sport critics. It is a picture giving a good reproduction of Boilermakers grid stars in action.
“Pest” Welch, half back, is shown carrying the ball thought the hole that has been opened by the forward wall. Capt. Harvey Olson, center, is blocking an opposing player. So good is the piece of work that the original, which was made by E. Pierre Wainwright of Connersville, after being displayed in the show window of a leading Indianapolis art store, had been taken to the I ‘Union building at the University where it will remain as a permanent piece, together with the original of last years poster, which is also the work of Wainwright.

Letter informing that E. Pierre Wainwright will be handling The Courier-Journal football illustrations. |
The Courier Journal Engraving Department Liberty at Third Louisville, Kentucky July 21, 1934.
Gentlemen:
Here is good news for you.
We have just completed arrangements with E. Pierre Wainwright to handle all our football illustrations this year.
This means that you can now have your program covers designed by one of the finest artists on this type of work in the United States.
For six years he has designed and drawn the illustrations for Bob Woodworth’s very effective football advertising campaigns at Purdue, which have attracted the attention of college athletic managers from coast to coast.
Personally, I am more enthusiastic about this connection with Wainwright than with anything we have ever been able to offer our customers. I know that we can turn your program art problems over to him with complete confidence that he will give you the finest results that can be obtained anywhere in the country. Incidentally the reasonableness of the cost will be a pleasant surprise.
If you have not ordered the engravings for your football programs, fill in the blank below and I will give you full details by return mail.
Sincerely yours,
T. A. Corcoran Engraving Dept.
